Google Play Family of Apps Get Refreshed Icons
Google Play last year received a major revamp which saw the creation of the two tabs - Apps & Games and Entertainment - amongst other changes. Now, Google has announced that its entire family of Play apps is receiving updated icons to provide a consistent look.
Google's Jonathan Chung, Visual Design Lead, Google Play in a blog post confirmed the visual change for Play apps and also announced that users will start to see the new Google Play icons across devices and online in the coming weeks.
The apps that will receive the new look include Google Play, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Games, Play Books, and Play Newsstand. All the new Google Play icons are based on a play button symbol, with branding similar to the last generation of icons present within.
The Play Music icon has received the biggest visual change as it will no longer don the dated headphones and will be replaced by a simple music note with orange colour dominating. Other apps including Play Books, Play Games, Play Movies, and Play Newsstand have retained the look of the last generation.
"Since launching Google Play four years ago, we've always had dedicated apps in addition to the Google Play store. Today, all our icons are getting an update to provide a consistent look across the entire family of Play apps," said Chung.
Google last year following its corporate reorganisation unveiled a new logo. The company soon after released the same four-colour designs to other logos and branding across its products and services. The changes also appeared on the desktop's Google Search page apart from refreshed logos and branding in Web services.
