Yahoo Messenger Update Brings Support for Hindi and More
Yahoo India on Tuesday announced updates to Yahoo Messenger for Android and iOS users. The Android update focuses on reaching more users in the country as it gets support for Hindi language. The iOS update on the other hand brings support for third-party keyboards.
To be specific, Yahoo Messenger v1.1.0 for iOS and v2.1.0 for Android for the first time supports non-English languages such as Hindi (for Android only), Chinese, French, German, Indonesian and Spanish. The app also syncs and matches users mobile contacts to easily search for friends and quickly access chats. "Users just need to enable access to contacts in the Messenger app for the best experience," says the firm.
On iOS, the Yahoo Messenger now also supports third party keyboard apps on iOS 8, iOS 9.2 and later versions. For Android users, the app update now lets users type "/gif" along with any search term to get a random gif images to send. The app already let users search for and send gif images. Gif image search in the app is powered by Tumblr, which Yahoo acquired in 2013. The unsend feature works for all kinds of messages - text and media included. The updated app can be downloaded from Google Play and App Store.
Yahoo last updated its Messenger app in December 2015 for Android, iOS and Web letting users share multiple photos within the app. It also brought the ability to like the images inside the app. One of the highlights of the update was the ability to unsend a message. The company said it redesigned the app from the ground up across platforms, which introduces a cleaner, less cluttered look to the service.
